What is Control System & Its Types?

In this tutorial we are going to learn about control system & Its Types.

Control System:

  • A system which consist of number of components connected together to perform a specific function, in which the output is controlled by input.
  • A control system is a system, which provides the desired response by controlling the output.

Types of Control System:

  1. Open Loop Control System
  2. Close Loop Control System

Open Loop Control System:

  • An Open Control System is a system in which the control action is totally independent of output of the system.
  • An Open Loop Control is a system in which the control action is totally independent of output of the system is called open loop control system. Mainly control system is also known as an open loop control system.
  • The accuracy of the system depends on the experience of user.

Example of Open Loop Control is like that – Immersion Water Heater, Light Switch, Automatic Washing Machine etc.

Advantage of Open Loop Control System:

  • Easy to design.
  • Cost wise cheap.
  • Easy to maintain.
  • It is convenient to use when the output is difficult to measure.

Disadvantage of Open Loop Control System:

  • No more Accurate.
  • Poorly equipped to handle disturbance.
  • Desired output not obtains.
  • Not reliable.

Close Loop Control System:

  • Close Loop Control System is a system in which the output has an effect on the input which will adjust itself based on the output generally is called Close Loop Control System & This is also called feedback control system or automatic control system.
  • In the closed loop system, the output is measured continuously and is feedback to the input.
  • The presence of feedback compensates for the disturbance and improves the accuracy of the system.

Below is the example of Close Loop Control System:

  • Air Conditioner
  • Geyser
  • Voltage Stabilize

Advantage of Close Loop Control System:

  • It has more accurate.
  • It is more reliable.
  • Response time is high.
  • Large range of bandwidth.

Disadvantage of Close Loop Control System:

  • It is costly.
  • It is difficult to design.
  • Required More Maintenance
